The debilitating symptoms that hold us back in life are all created originally as a response to trauma. Whenever we get into emotional distress the subconscious mind tries to protect us from that distress in the future by creating a fear or an instinctive reaction. It's a process that is by design to keep us safe, to survive. We're only born with two instinctive fears - fear of falling and fear of loud noise, everything else is learned. As a child everything is new and as the conscious mind is underdeveloped it cannot support the subconscious in processing experiences, so the subconscious interprets in the best way it can to protect you. We're much more susceptible as a child to trauma and this is by design as essentially the early years up to 7 is where we learn how to survive quickly, how to communicate, how to give and receive love, and how to interact with the world around us. Unfortunately in modern life with so many complex events and inputs that can affect us, the subconscious can very easily create a fear or a protective programme that holds us back in later life as the programmes created in childhood and adolescence are never cancelled. In adult life a much stronger reaction is required to have a similar impact, such as an accident, an abusive relationship, or grief.
These fears and programmes are what create the symptoms that hold us back such as stress, anxiety, emotional distress, relationship issues, communication problems, phobias, and irrational behaviours. These symptoms can then lead to dependancies and addictions when the subconscious learns that alcohol, drugs, food, physical possessions, and even exercise make us feel better or give us an escape from those feelings. Over time if the root cause trauma's are never dealt with this will strengthen the connection and can lead to dependency and then addiction. Phobias can also be created as a result of emotional distress, usually where the subconsious associates something physical incorrectly with emotional distress.
Analytical Hypnotherapy is root cause analysis; we find the original traumas that created the negative behaviours, we reframe the original trauma's and release the faulty programmes associated with them. The process I follow is an 8 session programme designed by the late great John Howard, then enhanced and expanded by Alan Kershaw. The National Association of Holistic Analytical Hypnotherapy (NAHAH) is now managed and run by my mentor John Richardson. The process is used by all the members of NAHAH to successfully treat hundreds of people a year.
The first half of the process is 4x sessions of "Free Analysis" which is akin to counselling the subconscious mind, similar to Psycho Analysis but much, much quicker we work directly with the subconsious mind. Under hypnosis we invite the subconscious to bring back memories and experiences it knows have contributed to your issues. Over these 4x sessions we get an understanding of the root cause behaviours all of your negative experiences trace back to. The process is like painting a picture of a tree from the branches downwards; over the course of the four session we get a picture of how all of the experiences connect back to one or more root cause trauma's. Generally the root causes all boil down to common denominators such as self worth, self love, judgement, abandonment, control, victim, powerless, guilt and shame among others.
In the 2nd half of the process we use visualisation tools under hypnosis to create an agreement with your subconscious to resolve your issues. We use visualisation tools to start the process of resolving the specific issues. Initially we create a physical representation of the subconsious mind. We create an agreement with it to resolve your issues and support you going forward through the process and beyond. We then create a physical representation of the body and mind to start to resolve the resulting symptoms you're struggling with. We then reframe the relationships with all the dominant people in our lives - parents, grandparents, siblings and anyone else who has had a significant impact on your life. This is ostensibly about forgiveness and/or acceptance.
In the final 2x sessions we talk directly to the subconscious to reframe the original trauma's and release the faulty programmes associated with them. When the subconsious releases those programmes it gives a strong confirmation that it has done so. You may feel a physical sensation like feeling lighter or a weight being lifted from their shoulders or even a pain that comes and then shifts. You may see a vision such as coming out of a tunnel into the light or dark colours that change to light. You might feel an emotion, or change in mindset. Usually people will experience multiple sensations together.
The process is an incredible experience for clients. The overall goal of the process is to re-train the subconsious mind to identify and understand what faulty programmes are no longer serving a purpose or providing any benefit, and to release them. The process resolves all of the negative blocks that hold you back in one 8x session process, leaving people feeling the best versions of themselves they can be.
Here are some testimonies from clients that have finished the process:
"After years of suffering from what seems a lifetime of self destruction, suffering depression, feeling suicidal, tried to take my own life. Hurt my wife mentally and family and friends, I’ve truly turned that corner thanks to a guy who for the last eight weeks has helped me realise that I’m not a bad person and only needed my subconscious rebooting. Sounds crazy, but true. I’ve made massive strides forward and have now taken on my first employee, who’s only 17 and so enthusiastic. Thank you so much Chris." - PTSD sufferer with extreme depression and anxiety and suicidal ideation following a fatal crash.
